Wood Shingle Siding
Shingles made from cedar are another option if you are looking for a wood look that requires less maintenance than traditional wood clapboard siding.
Wood shingles offer a rustic, natural and sustainable look to any home. The shingles can be painted or stained in any color and can last up to thirty years.
Like wood clapboard, they do still require some maintenance and should be treated every five years to prevent rot or mildew and will require repainting or restaining periodically.
If individual shingles start to wear, they can be easily replaced without having to replace whole sections of siding.
Shingle siding is available in prefab panels that are less expensive than cedar shake shingles, but they are not as durable and not as thick and are harder to repair when necessary. They will also not last as long as cedar shake shingles.
Wood siding is not an intelligent choice in locations that are prone to fires, due to its flammability and shouldn't be selected if you are looking for a low or no maintenance siding option.
